Fire Alarm Service and Maintenance
Once you have a fire alarm installed, it is a legal requirement to have it serviced at least twice a year (depending on the industry you are in). To comply with the RRO (Regulatory Reform (Fire safety) order 2005), your premises, facilities, equipment and devices must be regularly maintained by a competent person/qualified maintenance contractor. This should be done bi-annually or quarterly. It is a legal requirement that all fire Systems are checked to ensure they remain fully operational as originally designed and commissioned.
Our quotation covers the six-monthly servicing of the Fire Alarm System installed on your premises.
Scope of Service
During each visit, our engineer will:
- System Logbook Check: Review your system logbook to verify that any recorded faults have been rectified.
- Visual Inspection: Conduct a visual inspection to ensure:
- All manual call points are unobstructed.
- No changes to the building affect the fire alarm system’s compliance with BS 5839-1:2017.
- Routine Testing: Perform routine testing in accordance with BS 5839-1:2017 Section 6:44.
- Documentation: Upon completing the service, our engineer will:
- Update the system logbook.
- Issue a service certificate for each system.
- Provide an engineer’s report detailing any recommendations or repairs required.
Additional Work and Costs
- Spare Parts and Labour: The quotation does not include the supply of spare parts or the labour required to install them. These items will be quoted separately, and no additional work will be carried out without your prior approval.
- Remedial Works: Any equipment faults or deficiencies identified during our maintenance visits will be documented in the engineer’s report. Any recommended remedial work will be quoted separately.
- Weekly Testing: Your fire alarm will require weekly testing by a nominated person on the same day and at the same approximate time each week as outlined in the British Standards. This can be carried out by the business owner or a staff member who must record this weekly and report any faults and take appropriate action. This can prove to be too time consuming or too much responsibility, so with this in mind, we offer a weekly Testing Package. We’ll attend your premises, test and record it for you.
Compliance and Support
By accepting our Service and Maintenance proposal, you ensure that:
- Your system is regularly tested and maintained in line with manufacturer recommendations and the relevant standards (BS 5839-1:2017).
- You remain compliant with current regulatory standards and any insurance requirements.
