For this edition, we decided to take a different approach to our “Meet Us” page why we have a passion for the outdoors from our own—our FD, Caroline Gillis.
Caroline’s journey began at the age of seven (we won’t say how many years ago!) when her family moved to a farm. Her father needed more land for his game business, so they settled on a sheep farm—coincidentally, not far from where our HQ is based today. And that’s where it all began.
From the start, Caroline thrived in the outdoors. Whether it was helping her dad rear pheasants for shoots, feeding sheep, or caring for Cade lambs, she was in her element. Life on the farm was rewarding but demanding. With work tied closely to the seasons, family holidays were non existent. Caroline cherishes the memories she made visiting family in Scarborough—her only childhood holidays.
Summer meant many 16-hour days, weekends spent working, and squeezing in farm duties after school. At times, she admits she resented missing out on a “normal” childhood. But in hindsight, she realises those experiences shaped her passion for farming, the outdoors and taught her resilience and dedication.
Five years later, her family had to leave their rented farmhouse when the owner sold the buildings for conversion. Although they purchased the land, they had to move to live four miles away due to repeated planning rejections for a new home. Being off-site made things even harder.
Security was a constant concern. Caroline recalls countless thefts—trailers, quads, even livestock were stolen. Tensions ran high at home, and eventually, the insurance company removed theft from their policy altogether due to the volume of claims and being quite remote. From that point on, anything stolen came directly out of the family’s pocket. It was a harsh reality that made her understand just how tough farming life could be.
As she got older, Caroline came to truly appreciate farming—not as a way to get rich, but as a meaningful, demanding, and deeply rewarding way of life.
With time, the family invested in better security—alarming buildings and even fields. That’s when Caroline met Chris, and together they founded Infinite. Chris’s expertise in fire and security systems, paired with Caroline’s farming background, created a powerful mission: to help protect what matters most.
From safeguarding game farms against poachers to helping contractors secure their machinery, Infinite has grown with a clear purpose. Many have asked why we’re so passionate about backing British farming—now you know the story behind it.
